I only have a couple of Ancients and as part of my consolidation I think they would be better off in more deserving hands.
I bought this in Caesarea Israel a few years ago I know I paid way more than its worth so I'm looking for some one to tell me what would be a reasonable asking price.

Thanks for your time

Wish I had the experience to tell you what it's worth NoHope, but I will ask you a question if I may? I plan to go to Israel in October. One of things I'm going to be looking for is coins. Now I know I have been warned about the fakes that are all over, but how did you acquire this coin? Was it through a coin shop, guy on the street, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A coin shop its a little stall inside the the gift shop or at least it was. The guy was selling off his collection and renting space there. I doubt he he is still in operation but you never know.
There are a couple of Good Shops in Jerusalem but I found there prices were astronomical. There is a coin club In Tel Aviv I'll see if I can dig up the info on it. The Mint also have a shop in Tel Aviv

I can not encourage you too much to enjoy your trip and buy your coin when you get home. While the OP coin appears to be real, it is terribly porous and probably worth $10-20 or so. You could get a nice one for under $100 here which I suspect would be an approximate price asked for many fakes there. Fleecing tourists is a national sport near tourist sites. While there are good and honest Israeli dealers, you would be unlikely to find one in a tourist market. Also there is the possible question of buying a coin and not having proper papers to take it out of the country.

I suspect, with the tourist trade flourishing there that these shops would charge incredible prices to the unsuspecting. I suppose there might be room for negoiating prices there as well?
Yes, a coin club might be a good place to investigate. Any information would be appreciated!
While you were there, did you see any people trying to sell coins outside the realm of coin shops? Maybe in a market place? I have heard of young Arab's who, with a shovel on their back and dirty hands, just 'dug up' a handful of ancients that still had the dirt on them. Willing to sell at a 'great price.' Most of these were fakes manufactured in a small village not too far from Jerusalem.

Your point is well taken Doug. My main object is not buying coins, but I certainly will be looking around for some if they appear. As to papers, I think I read it only takes a brief visit to the ministry that deals with antiquities to register your coins or antiques and doesn't cost anything. I am not going with a tour group and plan on having lots of my own time to explore different areas and at my leisure so it should not be too hard to register anything I might want to take home with me. And actually, if I got away from the 'tourist' areas I might do better in finding something that wasn't expensive. Now to the authenticity...... David Hendin and me will be traveling together :)
