I am going to see a friend in Ottawa this coming weekend. While there my wife has agreed to go to the Bank of Canada Currency Museum. I have to say that I am really looking forward to it, as I have always liked museums in general, but one dedicated to currency is even better. To top it off, it is completely FREE!
Who has been there before? How much time should I alot to get a good look around (I don't want to rush, but have other engagements while there). Any galleries or exhibits that are not worth the time?(I am more of a coin guy, but am interested in paper money as well).
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I have been there twice and think it is great. Has been a few years now since the last time I was there so not sure if it has changed at all. Time wise I would say about an hour, it isn't huge and all depends on how much time you will take reading the information with the exhibits or just staring at the numerous numbers of different coins and other stuff they have. Enjoy your time in Ottawa!

Don't let anything accidently fall into your pockets while you're there though. They take that stuff kind of personal!

Unfortunately, most of the best Canadian and World Coins having temporarily been removed from the Currency Museum in Ottawa for 'restoration purposes', so you won't be able to see the 1921 50 cent piece, 1875H quarter, 1916c Sovereign or other rarities that you might have wanted. I have been there several times over the past few months to ask them when the coins will be returned, and they seem to have no idea.
So don't be surprised if you're disappointed by what you see...

Actually, part of the building the collection is housed in, is undergoing restoration (not the coins themselves)....

Oh ok. That's not what I was told, but it makes a lot more sense. Still sucks that they couldn't put the coins on display somewhere else in the meantime though.

I imagine the main issue with that is security and controlled climate (humidity).
