1978 25 Cents Small Vs Large Denticles

Checking my nickel bag, I found 4 1978. 3 are the small denticle variety (one is AU) and the other is a large denticle. Charlton has these as large being the rarer of the two, whereas Trends has the small denticles as the harder to find. I would tend to go with Trends on this one since they are a weekly pub. and can catch and fix errors faster than yearly ones.

My findings are from circulation. 3 small, 1 large, but it seems it should be the other way around... I'm confused.

Trends does have the large > small at MS-65

Another interesting disagreement between trends and Charlton is the availability in mint sets. Charlton shows both available in NC and SP. While trends shows - for the small NBU.

How do you know which ones are big and wich ones are small?

CANADA is far from the small denticles and close to the large denticles.
The surest way to tell the difference is to count the denticles,148 small,120 large

Small denticles are a lot easier to get than large denticles in MS65. Large denticles in MS65 usually sell on ebay for more than Trends.
