Nice 1859 Large Cent Gene! Lots of red - a great coin!

How did you make out finding lodging with the big event that was happening the same time in Halifax?

I'm thinking of going to the RCNA show in 2024. The largest show I've been to in Canada was the Ontario Numismatic Association annual show when it was held once in Kingston, back in the early '00's.

Anything from the first year series in mint state is a weak spot of mine Already have a 1858/10c in NGC MS64 but think mint state 58s are majorly undervalued, so one of the few numismatic 'investments' I'll make, when they occasionally pop up.

Made reservations as soon as I could. (Two days after they started taking them).

The 2024 RCNA is in Boucherville a suburb of Montreal.

I made my first ebay purchase in a very, very long time and acquired this nice AU58 1890-H Five Cents. I like AU58's and it's about the only affordable grade for Victorian-era pieces, for the shallow-pocketed.

This coin has a lot of character - 1's instead of I's in VICTORIA & DEI, and the 1 in DEI is backwards. Also a repunched C and incomplete O in Victoria, a missing serif on the 1st A and a not-quite-complete D in CANADA. A quirky piece for sure, with a modest premium over the normal 1890-H according to my Five Cents guidebook.

This is my recent Kijiji purchase. I'm not big into coin sets but I couldn't pass this deal up!
I got 8 sets for $120:
2002 Tiny Treasures set
2009 Proof Set
2010 Proof Set
2004 Specimen Set
2005 Specimen Set
2012 Specimen Set
2014 Specimen Set
And when I met up to complete the transaction, they through in a 2003 Tiny Treasures set that they found.
