That is a fantastic image of an Indian warrior. I have seen that one before an instantly put it in the "I would like to have one", list. Great piece as always, an always enjoy checking out your unique rounds, thanks...

Hawk,

It has a certain rugged individualism, doesn't it. It's based on a painting but I can't recall the name. I'm impressed that you recognized it. I certainly didn't, until the day I received the round.

Actually that design is based upon a bronze statue created by James Earle Fraser. It is called "The End of the Trail".

Great call Ed that is it, but I would bet they made some prints of that image in whatever artist's own interpretation of that statue perhaps....

You got, Ed. Thanks for the reminder. It's quite moving, in any medium.

Hawk, that is very much the case. If I remember correctly, that statue has been deemed one of the most reproduced statues ever...and certainly so for the "western" culture.

Per Wikipedia: Fraser also developed a reputation as a numismatist, creating his best-known and certainly his most circulated work -- the Indian Head or "Buffalo" nickel -- in 1913.

Thanks, Traevin & Hawk. Yeah, that is a VERY much reproduced image and it is one that is very famous in western US lore. I have seen it as a print and as various statues, mostly plaster of paris which is then spray painted to look like bronze. This makes a nice keepsake for anyone who enjoys western art but who also does not want to spend thousands on a bronze version.
