With gold and silver taking a hit in price... what would be the better investment? I would like to invest in either gold or silver, but not sure which one to go into. Thanks

I still think there is more potential upside to silver, but it's more of a gut feeling based loosely on all the talk about how useful/necessary silver is to industry, how a lot of it doesn't get recycled and how much harder it is getting to mine the stuff.

Basically, I figure that it's within the realm of possibility for silver to someday (whether it's in 5 years or 25 years) hit upwards of $100/ounce, which would be a 3-fold increase (and then some) from the current price. At the same time, I just can't imagine Gold ever trading at $3500-4000/ounce. But maybe that's just a lack of imagination on my part. After all, 10 years ago I never would have imagined gold would ever be at $1500...

Oh -- having said all that, I actually just took the current dip in prices as an opportunity to buy my first gold bullion. But that's only because I recently bought a large amount of silver and felt I needed to diversify a bit. Plus, I just really wanted some...

Im stuck on whether to buy gold 1/4oz, or around 13oz of silver. These numbers are based on silver being at $30oz and gold around $450 for 1/4oz.

I personally wouldn't buy anything under 1 ounce due to the premiums, but I understand not everybody has that option. Right now I can get 1 ounce gold Krugerrand for only $27.99 over spot. A 1/4 ounce gold eagle, on the other hand, has a $39.99 premium. That may not matter to you, but it really bugs me...

I have been pondering that question for the last week. Should I buy silver or gold. The conclusion I made was to buy under 1/4 ounce of gold and 10+ounces of silver. Basically I am spending the same amount of money on gold as I am spending on silver. Because the market has been really volatile in the last week of trading, I opted to purchase a World Commemorative coin instead of a strictly Bullion piece. I figure that by having some numismatic value, I would be in slightly better shape if gold takes a nose dive.

A lot of us seem to be wrestling with the silver vs. gold issue. I know that I sure am. I like both but have a good amount of silver, so am thinking that gold might be the way to go for the next purchase. I see that Provident was selling 1 oz Credit Suisse bars for about $21 over spot. That's a pretty cheap premium compared to a lot of the coins.

I agree that the 1-oz coins have the lowest premium per oz. of metal of the coins and that as the coins get smaller, this premium goes up pretty fast. Still, for anyone with only a small bullion budget, the smaller coins may be all that they can buy unless they are willing to save up for a larger coin. While that makes sense to me, there is always the thought that the volatility of gold and silver could really work against that strategy.

I'm on the side of the silverbugs, as well. For me, the silver/gold ratio is just too skewed at the moment for me to invest in gold. I might buy gold purely for the novelty of owning it but not as as PM collecting strategy.

I would really like to get both... Silver is a lot cheaper and I can get more of it. What I might do is get a 5 dollar gold piece from Canada or USA, or just stick with silver 1oz coins.

Its hard only being able to work 10 hours every two weeks, and be able to buy the 1oz gold coins. Aha, hopefully next year I can actually get a job during the summer where I can work 10 hours a week Uh, I hate being 13

I think if I were you I would stick to silver for now. You can buy a little at a time! Prices are really dropping too!

I already have about 700 ounces in silver coin, so this year I've been buying early US gold at a hair over spot from my dealer. I love old coins, so I think this is a good route for me.
