I've been roll hunting pennies for quite a while now, and it's been quite fun, but I've thought about starting to look for silver coins now. So I want to know whether it would be more cost effective to search dimes or quarters.I'm still in high school and I just started working, so I have little money to spend.

Dimes > Quarters

You'll go nuts hunting silver out of quarters, but will find the occasional dime to keep you happy.

I would rather do nickels then quarters. Never done dimes before but from what I've read, I believe most would choose either dimes or halfs as their first choise and the other as their next. I personally like nickels when I'm taking a break from pennies. I pick up a box a week for my work, and I've estimated about 1 in 10 boxes of finding a silver quarter. In Los Angeles, especially near Ktown, I tend to get a lot of 100 won coins, which makes me mad since it worth a dime, and it looks almost like a silver quarter if just your edge hunting, which I tend to do at work.

I've had consistent luck with dimes, and have searched maybe $3k in quarters in the last year or two. Silver finds (by weight) are actually somewhat close, per amount in dimes vs quarters searched.

While they are not the best for silver, I do think quarter searching has value for those wanting to build a clad or Statehood Quarter set.
