Hey, been out of the collecting world when it comes to coins for a couple years. I recently (like just today) bought a bunch of silver from an older woman, and I want to know what the going rate is these days for face value.
What do the average collector pay for face value? $20 x face?
What do dealers currently offer on face value? $18?
Im just guessing here, but I hope someone can give me a ball park.
I purchased almost $250 in face value worth of silver halfs, dimes, quarters, and morgans/peace dollars.
Thanks

Itll depend on the silver content of the coin but silver right now is going for about 27 an ounce.

Certain websites (like moderator edit - please do not mention that website - there is a reason it's been added to the swearword filter) will give you the melt value, which is $20.44 times face at the time of this posting. Depending on where you live, local dealers will pay anywhere from 2/3 to 9/10 of melt. The big online dealers typically pay around 95%.
For most deals, I try to split the difference between what the local dealers are paying and melt value.

Instead of referring people to a website that spammed it's way to the top of Google searches, try another website, like CurrencyDebasement.

You never mentioned if your planning on selling them or just want to know what it may be worth. And did you look them over for coin values?

Ya I already looked through them all for key dates. Everything is pretty much only worth the face value in silver. Everything is 90% silver, with the exception of $14 in 40% half dollars, and possibly 3 mexican coins I'm not too sure of. After checking ebay, it appears that silver is selling for up to $24-$26 times face value. I would like to keep everything and put it into my collection, but I may be selling some just to get some cash back. There was a $5 gold coin in the collection as well.

When I sell silver, I sell private party on the internet. A good picture, ship insured, signature required, and tape the heck out of box.

If you bought $250 face silver, you owe her $5,750. 23x face is fair market value.

Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. *** was not a swear word and it appears that your website is actively engaging in censorship based on some internal conflict with another website. I certainly have no knowledge of any past problems you've had with them, but I do have a problem with my posts being censored for what I perceive to be petty squabbling in the attempt to steer people to (or away from) certain sites on your behalf. I have another problem with this not being disclosed in your terms of service, and I deem your behavior to be a breach of contract. I have a statement to make:
"If any members of your team are captured or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. Good luck, Jim."
Makes about as much sense.
