Since I had the most feedback from this forum, thought I would ask your opinion here.

The next album that I am planning to design is Soviet commemorative album. About 70 coins or so but here is my dilemma.

Should I just design it on the basis of release dates versus themes such as famous people, monuments, Red Book, events such as Olympics and so forth. Do I include the Barcelona 1992 proof coins as well when it's not really released for circulation?

Seems easy but maybe not too easy?

Since you mention that it is Soviet I feel that all Soviet coins should be included. I just get the vibes that the album would be incomplete without them, irrespective of them not being released for circulation.

The Barcelona coins would be 'widows' or 'orphans' otherwise. They are commemorative coins, after all.

A problem like this has come up before, where other album collectors are sometimes obliged to fill holes in an uncirculated album with proof coins.

Considering the thought and effort you are putting into this, some considered planning is certainly justified.

I would go in chronological order. Before you put it out there I hadn't even thought of dividing them thematically, but I think it would be unbalanced. Some themes would be dominating, like famous people, and some would just have one or two coins.
And I would include Barcelona set as well. Early commemoratives were in circulation, some circulated heavily; the later the issue the less circulation they saw. I don't think there's a clear line there, so it's easier not to [artificially] draw one yourself.

Agree with the thought of including 1992 coins lest they become 'orphans'.

As for organization, I'd recommend going by date

When you put the table at the front of the book you can include which theme it belongs to so those interested can skip right to them. I'm not too familiar with these but it's possible some coins might fit into more than one theme (famous person, space exploration?). . .

I was thinking the same thing but somehow forgot to mention it. It's extra headache for you to define (the boundaries of) themes.

And just to clarify any possible confusion for people less familiar with them; Barcelona Olympics coins, while featuring a 1992 event, are 1991 issued coins.

This is going to be a pain - some photos that I have taken are more than 7 years old and I didn't take good photos back then. Some of the coins are actually at another country so this will be very very interesting. Will do with what I got. Some looks good.

Made a couple of pages without any fanciful text yet:

I'll need to find some other coins to photograph as these coins are kept at another place far away...

You can use mine (if you find them acceptable). I have just two missing. My rubles should be on omnicoin.

Believe this is all of the commemorative coins. Done all of the obverse but will do the reverse when I get around the time to. Probably will find some spare 1967 commemorative coins instead of the ones that I have right now in plastic film.
