Hi - I am new to this forum, so forgive me if I stumble through these first submissions. I have recently begun buying and searching through unopened mint bags to look for errors and varieties. It is a ton of fun, but now that I have found some things, I wasn't sure who to ask about them. I searched on the Internet and found this forum, so I am taking a shot with you all

In a $1000 New York-P Quarter mint bag, I found a few dozen coins that appear to be possible doubled dies on the obverse. They all display extra thickness on all obverse letters (the letters are all flat and thick) and clear doubling on the W of "WE" and the S of "TRUST" in the motto (the letters are shifted to the right). The B in "LIBERTY" also shows signs of doubling. I have attached a few photos. Let me know what you think and thank you in advance!

Hello,

I am unsure about the letters in the motto.

The 'IB' of LIBERTY, however, appear to be PMD and are struck in the same general direction as the scratch on the 'Q' of QUARTER.

I would prefer to wait for more informative comments regarding the motto and to find out about what sort of premium would apply if this coin does turn out to be a DDO etc.

By the way what year is this coin?

Thanks a lot for the reply, mdpmedia. The date on the coin is 2001. It is a New York Statehood Quarter. Given what I learned on my 1972 DDO post, I am going to look at the coin again - perhaps I can figure it out better now and look for "notches."

Please don't be shy on posting. There are tons of great help on this site.

Your coin has machine/strike doubling. It doesn't add any value to the coin. Sorry, but there are a ton of them out there.

Good luck and I hope you find something good.

KP,

I was searching the other day at a yard sale and thought I saw a DDO.

Luck did turn out to be on my side since I found a valuable DDO Kennedy half:

The following photos may assist you to better identify this particular type of 'CCF-verified' doubling:

happy hunting,
