My co-worker left on Tuesday..

Today whilst looking for tape, I found a couple of bucks worth of pennies and nickles.

out of the stash..

2-wheat pennies, 1940, 1939
1-1942 nickel....

I had just read that during 1942-44, the mint put silver in the nickles...

now I have one.

In 1942 they made both a silver and a regular. The silver one has a big MM on top of the Monticello on the reverse.

EDIT: fixed bid to big

Nice finds. Yeah, check the reverse of the 42 nickel, to make sure it is silver. And it goes up to 1945 for the silver nickels.

Something about the title of this thread just sounds wrong.

No he isn't coming back... moved on to a different part of the company.
If he was coming back I wouldn't have taken the change he left behind.

one is stealing the other is just finders keepers..

HAHAHAHA....sweet.

Everyone I work with knows I collect "pennies". I have had 3 different handfuls delivered to my office from people that were cleaning out their drawers. Nothing to note out of those other than some copper.

My coworkers all know that I save pennies and any coin which may look strange. I buy them all up. Everyone has pennies in their drawer. And they bring them in from home sometimes too.

Stampvirgin, did you find out if the 1942 nickel is really "nickel" or "silver"?

Nice find. I hope that 42 Jefferson is the silver Nickel issue.

Silver (35%) nickels will have a Huge mint mark on the reverse (side with Monticello) at 12 o clock. It's hard to miss. it will be HUGE.

So,-Cleaning-Out-Co-Workers-Drawers...

Nice find though, either way.
