I just received a set of P&D Chaco Culture quarters from an ebay purchase. I was flabbergasted to find the coins taped to an index card inside the envelope.

I guess he ran out of flips and/or 2x2s.

None of his feedbacks even hinted at this being a problem in the past, so I never thought to ask how they were shipped.

If the seller ever used flips or 2x2's, he would have better sense than to use tape.

The cost is so inconsequential that I'm not even going to worry about returning them. I'm just chocking this up to one of life's lessons, and moving on. I just thought all of you would get a chuckle out of it at least. It's was worth the comedic value if nothing else.

You could give them a quick dip in acetone and then put them in 2x2's.

*Facepalm*

...

Scary thing is that it reminds me of what *I* did in my earliest collecting days as a wee lad of 5.

I am sorry I laughed at this, but I have to say that I have encountered this on several occasions. When I get coins packed this way, they go straight into an Acetone bath.

Thanks John, and Tim, and Browne. Good idea. I'll have to give them a dip in acetone to remove any adhesive residue.

I've had coins shipped like this to me as well. I had a seller ship a whole roll of silver quarters to me this way. Fortunately the coins were just junk silver, but I still gave them an acetone bath. It takes the adhesive right off.

I can see why someone might think thats a good idea for a coin or two. But why in the world would someone do that to a whole roll?

Of the 80+ coins I have bought on ebay I have never seen anything that dumb with the shipping. I have had sellers tape the 2x2 to the envelope or papers. Those holders needed to be replaced.
