Hello Everyone. I have a few of these blank planchets. I think they are Type 1 Zinc Unplated 1c planchets, but I'm not sure. They're the size of a penny, but weigh 2.8 grams. Definitely not steel because I tried to attract them with a magnet. Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

2.8 grams is a bit too heavy...

Thanks Captain. Yep, that's what I was thinking. Should be around 2.3 grams or so. Could they be foreign? I've searched all over the net, but can't find anything.

I am thinking foreign blank planchet. I have a few of these, of various sizes. Most of mine are from The Royal Mint, so it is impossible to determine what country they were intended for, with the RM striking coins for so many countries.

Thanks Sel. Is it safe to assume it's Zinc? Or?

The nearest I have is a U.S. zinc coated steel blank for a wartime U.S. cent. Same planchet was used for a wartime Belgian 2 Cents.

Thanks Sel. US zinc coated steel blank. Hmmmm..I'll do some research on that. If it was a zinc coated steel, wouldn't it still be attracted to a magnet? I tried it and it wasn't. This site is the best. Thanks.

You would think it would still be attracted to magnet, at least I would. Did you purchase these or were they in some coin roll/bag you were looking through

Thanks Papatony. Purchased a lot of blank planchets on ebay. Hoping they're worth something or I'm able to find out what they are. The seller said they were dime planchets, but they're too heavy. 2.8 grams, same diameter as US Cent.

That is not a blank. That is a planchet. It's a type 2. Type 1 would be a blank. The coin you have has been run through the upset mill making it a planchet, type 2.

The adjective "blank" is being used, not the noun. It's blank (meaning there's nothing on it), not a blank (the punched out piece of metal before the rim is created.)

Thanks. Ok a Type 2 planchet with nothing on both sides. I'm easy, that works for me. Would a Zinc Coated steel planchet still be magnetic? Just trying to find out what this is.

It does help Coop. I saw your image on this site in another post. Looks the same but the weight does not match, with it being 2.8 grams. Do you have a weight for your Planchet Coop?
If it is nickel composition, how would I be able to test it? Thanks ALL...
