What could cause the "damage" or described "serious hit" to this Half Cent on the "L" in Half? Would something like this occur during the counterfeiting process?
It looks like a Die Cud to me. I would doubt that this would happen if it was a counterfeit unless they specifically added it. It looks genuine to me! Cool coin!
There's a corresponding dent on the obverse that would account for the raised portion (with increased wear)on the L on the reverse. Damaged post mint by someone/something.
