Not sure if you folks talked about this but just in case I stumbled onto this section in the Presidential 1$ Act of 2005 and thought it was pretty interesting quote:
Sec. 304. Numismatic Pennies With The Same Metallic Content As The 1909 Penny. The Secretary of the Treasury shall issue 1-cent coins in 2009 with the exact metallic content as the 1-cent coin contained in 1909 in such number as the Secretary determines to be appropriate for numismatic purposes.
I'm not a penny collector but returning to its original metal content sounds like a smart move on the Governments part for keeping collectors interested.

Notice it said "for numismatic purposes?" I think that is great. Who knows, they may continue to be minted indefinitely. What about the worthless zinc cent? I'll bet cents in circulation will be history after 2009. I know a business in my area that voluntarily rounds in favor of the customer and does not give cents in change. He accepts cents but does not return them. He's been doing this for 2-3 years and says they're more trouble than he's willing to mess with. Now if only the lawmakers would take a hint.

Hmmm, wheat stalks again. Wouldn't it be cool if they did the original VDB on the reverse too?

If they add the wheat stalks, it should spark collector interest. I guess I should start saving up for a 1909 S VDB now, before it gets too costly.

The 2009 cents will have 4 different reverse designs depicting 4 stages of Lincolns life. The circulation coins will be the same zinc as today(unless we've changed to steel by then). The coins in the mint & proof sets, and maybe bags and rolls, will be the old 95% copper alloy.

I expect the price of almost all the older Lincoln cents to increase over the next two years. I am considering trying to buy some of the semi-key cents (figuring the 1909-S VDB is out of my range) and stock up in anticipation of the runup.
