For investment purposes, does it really matter if I buy Proof or BU?

huge school of thought on this.
My opinion;
Bullion eagles are for investment. Proof and BU eagles are for collections.
Remember, there is a difference between Proof, BU, and Bullion eagles.

Agreed.
Proofs and Uncirculateds are specifically collector pieces. If you're in it for the silver investment, go with the bullion strikes.

You could argue though that investing in the perfect 70 proofs ect over time will probably pay off more with the premiums some of the older ones fetch. But if were talking about raw coins or anything not perfect I agree bullion is the way to go.

I would also say bullion coins. Proofs and UNC's have a signifigant premium attached to them already straight from the mint.

Bullion coin for investment, but on the other hand, there cheaper to put the entire run together, 1986 to current set makes a great way to collect...

But longer term absolutely. A good majority of them carry a very nice premium over what would have been at the time to get them, much more so than any silver price rise would have given the person per coin

For investment, bullion is my school of thought. Although being from Canada I prefer Maples.

Silver business strikes are an investment. Coins are rarely worthy of pure investment. More like a gamble. Proofs are a gamble. You pay a premium WAY above silver, and the only way you are sure to recoup that premium is if the coin turns out to be a rarity or key date. That doesn't happen often, or they would all be key dates. Just like if coins were an investment, all coin collectors would be rich. Buy the business strikes for as close to melt as you can, buy the collector stuff to enjoy and pass along to your grandkids. Good luck.
