Hi Everyone,

This maybe basic for you but I am not sure where can I find it. My question is, is there a mintage for mint sets of each year?

Looking the mintage of each year, all the numbers are different. So it looks like the mint just make whatever collectors order. However, the MAC's book given mintage 100k for 2012 mint set and 50k for proof set.

I want to buy each year set at issue price and normally I buy them at end of year. But if it's likely to sold out earlier, should I buy them now?

Thanks.

Mint set numbers vary from year to year and the exact number is available in the RAM annual reports. It's a rare year that you cannot buy this year's mint set the next year for less than issue price.

A limit on mintage doesn't mean they'll make that many, just that they will not make any more than that number. We may not know the exact mintage for this years mint set for another year or two.

Thanks markn and the-purple-penny. Is there any way to check how many has been sold so far? So I can buy if it is close to the supposed number. :-)

Sales of mint sets have dropped substantially since the 80's, with 2000 being the last time mintage figures exceeded 100,000 - recent years have seen figures in the 60,000's. While the inclusion of the "hyper-metallic" 50 cent piece will boost sales, the price increase is likely to have dampened some of the potential demand. As the Mint sells the sets to dealers at a reduced price, you should still be able to buy the sets at issue price (or less) off ebay or from a dealer.

Thanks FNQ, so most likely I can still wait for the second half of year.
