Thats over $1 a coin which, considering it is a bulk purchase and any half decent ones would have been taken out, is a steep price.
It must have been the sellers lucky day

I sold 2.2 kg of KGV pennies about 6 months ago for $60 so I got screwed majorly if this is the where the market is now. Somehow I highly doubt it is and looking at the bidding it is the result of a few people wanting this particular lot bad enough...why though...crazy

Wow. I'm rich. I'm rich I tell ya. Tell that buyer to call me. I'll give him 10% discount right now.

If anyone actually this those coins are from a deceased estate they're kidding themselves. That's the oldest trick in the book IMO.

What a coincidence. 4 deceased estates all with the same number of pennies each

I know 'deceased estate' rings every scam bell in the book but the seller could've just split a large deceased estate over several lots.

For someone to bid that high/hard on these maybe they bought a previous lot & they did have key dates in them,i know thats the only way i'd ever bid more than 25/30 a kilo, but still even then you'd nearly have to be getting 1 or 2 key dates per kilo to make it worth while.

To break even you would want to find 2 average 1925 and 4 or 5 1946. 1914, 15, 26... 31 etc arent going to attract prices anywhere near good enough unless they are in good condition.

Seriously...what a joke. I can get a calico bag from ANZ, ruffle it up with a bit of mud & sell my coins for an absolute ridiculous amount of money. I sell ( ebay auctions) my coppers for basically 30-35 cents per coin. Basically as enworb said; $30 per kilo is what they were fetching. My rule of thumb is that Penny's are pretty much 10g, Halfpenny's are pretty much 5g. 1kg is 100 Penny's...so be it. Time to list as deceased estate...then again I don't bulls__t & to me, what goes around comes around.
