Any information about the ID of these two coins would be greatly appreciated. :)

Cheers

to the community.

Not my area of collecting yet, but I believe the first one might be Bactrian based of the elephant reverse. Our resident expert on Greek coins is DVD. Ask the mods to move this thread over to the Ancient Coin section. Or wait a bit I'm sure DVD will be along.

Sorry I haven't been around to chime in. The style of the first coin appears Indo-Greek or Bactrian, but I haven't seen an exact match. I may be of better help with the second coin, which I think matches a coin of Mysia Pergamon. However, yours is interesting because I think an owl is perched on the snake.

Attribution for this coin, which looks very similar to yours: MYSIA. Pergamon. After 133 BC. Æ 20mm (7.40 g). Laureate head of Asklepios right / Serpent coiled around omphalos.

Here is another coin, which may be a better match, that has the owl perched on the snake:

Bronze AE 20, BMC Mysia p. 129, 160, VF, Pergamon mint, 7.935g, 19.5mm, c. 133 - 16 B.C.; obverse Laureate head of Asklepios right; reverse AΣKΛHΠIOΥ / ΣΩTHΡOΣ, Asklepian snake coiled around omphalos, owl standing on the snake's back;

Sorry DVC I just realized I wrote DVD twice instead of DVC. Don't know why I did that.

If anyone recalls the thread on my top 25 coins, coin #24 was this type with the owl added by countermark. Here we see the plain one and the later version which incorporated the owl into the original die. They make a nice three coin set.

Oh...the first coin might be Seleucid, but I haven't found an exact match either.

A very huge thank you DVCollector. I think you nailed the second coin with the head of Asklepios. My picture is really dark, but your example with the owl standing on the snake's back is a dead ringer for my coin.

Also thanks for the tip on the first coin. I'll search the Seleucid data banks and see what I can find.
