I mentioned in the thread about Philip II that I purchased this Gordianvs III Antoninianus along with it. This coin is attributed as RIC 67 struck at Rome in 240 AD. It weighs 4.6g and is 21mm: OBV: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right REV: LIBERALITAS AVG III, Liberalitas standing left with abacus & cornucopia This coin marks the celebration of victory over Sabinianus' African revolt of AD 240. It is a sister coin to one I already own. The other coin is identical other then the reverse legend reads "LIBERALITASAVGII" and is attributed as RIC 36. This one was minted to mark the second donative of Gordian's reign (239 AD) held to celebrate his first consulate. This coin is in poor condition compared to my new coin.

I don't think this one is in poor condition, it seems rather nice. Well centered, clear legends...only the little flaw in the flan but that just gives it character IMO.
Oh, you were talking about the other coin. I'm not sure I've seen it. Anyway your new coin is really nice.

Very nice coin. Had this young emperor survived I think he would have turned out to be one of the better ones. Luckly there are a large number of his coins that remain.

You miss understood. This coin, my new coin, is in good condition compared to my other coin. I wasn't very clear. No, I think this may be my best Gordianvs III. And you are correct. The small crack in the flan gives it some character.

Quote: I know you got it at a rock bottom price, yes? I don't know about rock bottom, but $17 including shipping isn't too bad I don't think. chrsmat71: Thanks for the link. Like Stevex6 (Jerry) said, that was pretty high tech for it's time. Kind of like the slide rule when I was young (very young).
