I think it is struck through a thin film of grease. I don't think it is enouigh to be worth any extra value.

Question about the grease/water/oil how come none of the areas are affected by this. I mean its under the word LIBERTY but the word is not week or messed up or are the other areas that it is affecting. On the back the rock is not messed up but it is around that area. Just trying to figure that out.
Rest in Peace

Because the highest part of the die is the field. The devises are deeper into the die making them higher than the field on the struck coin. So a light film of lubricant on the die will be across the high flat surface of the die which is the field of the coin.

Just a slight amount can affect a strike. This coin was struck with something on the fields, assumed grease but could be oil or even water.

I see tons of nickels with rough patches in the fields from being struck through whatever. I don't keep them unless large swaths of the design are missing; they're really common.
