Here is another new coin I bought because it is the companion to my other Philip II. It is an Antoninianus, RIC 218d, struck at Rome in 245 AD:

OBV: M IVL PHILPPVS CAES, radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right
REV: PRINCIPI IVVENT, the prince standing left, holding globe & grounded spear, tip down
3.8g, 22mm

Philip-II-Antoninianus

My only other Philip II is RIC 216c, struck at Rome in 245 AD:

OBV: M IVL PHILIPPVS CAES, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right
REV: PRINCIPI IVVENT - Philip II standing right, holding transverse spear and globe
5.1g, 22.5mm

Both very nice JW - the obverse of the second one is fantastic, whatever 'eye appeal' is it has it.

Both coins are very nice JW. Your first Phillip II is stellar! Very nice. Looks like it was just minted.

Thanks all for your comments on these two coins. Of course I was able to obtain this new coin at a very reasonable sum which makes me even more pleased. Including shipping this coin only set me back $13.

Regards,

Nope. Not kidding at all. I actually bought two coins from this seller. This one and a Gordian III which I'll show in another thread soon. But both coins including shipping was right at $30 and change. The Gordian III being the more expensive, but I think the Philip II the better coin and better buy.

Very nice coins. Very good for the price as well.

I don't own any Philip I or Philip II coins yet. Maybe in the future!
