I haven't had too many new acquisitions lately but I was able to replace my provincial Augustus with this Imperial issue. Not in the greatest shape but a decent portrait. Came in the mail yesterday! Augustus (27 B.C.-A.D. 14) AR Denarius, : B.C. 2 -- A.D. 4, Lugdunum, 19.1mm, 3.46g, 180°, RIC I 207. Obv: CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE. Laureate head right. Rev: C L CAESARES AVGVSTI F COS DESIG PRINC IVVENT. Caius and Lucius standing, hands on shields with spear behind; simpulum and lituus above. Edited by MartiVltori 05/26/2012 01:24 am

Yes, it is in rather rough condition but I like it. I think those coins can get rather expensive. Perhaps unlikely that I might own one myself in the future. One never knows for sure.

These Augustus coins are highly sought after although they seem to be in abundance. There are variances of this coin which makes for a sub-category collection in and of itself. I own one I was able to pick up from a colleague in Croatia a couple of years ago for a pittance; $20. Your coin is struck high while mine is struck low:

A little porous, but still a very nice coin with excellent details.

Gil, you are correct. The Gaius/Lucius types are quite common but highly sought after which drives the price well beyond with it probably should be. Kind of like Tiberius and the 'Tribute Penny'. :)
