Any body Know if my coin is a Rarity you will see that the letter "R" in "FR" is directly under the "4" in my coin but all other coins of this date seem to be different. See example in the larger photo.

Hello and welcome.

As far as I can tell, there's not too much attention paid to the variations in legend with this coin; there are even some with FRA instead of FR pictured in Spink, but no mention of this in the listings. So even if it is rare, there's no demand to make it valuable.

Thanks for quick reply here's another strange one,I have a Crown dated 1677 and someone 250 years ago, for whatever reason, decided to put an inscription on. England went to War with Spain on this date but I don't think the two are Connected.

Can anyone explain the seemingly extra "y" with the small "c" above it. I know "c" usually means "Circa" or "around".

It's a "e", not a "c".
This combination ("y" with an "e" above it) was used as an abbreviation for (the word we would write as) "the", so "Jan[uar]y the 18th".
Never seen it on a coin before though nor in an 18th-century context (it's more of an early 17th century abbreviation so if this really was cut in 1762 the guy who did it was being seriously archaic).

And the reason y is used in that abbreviation is due to the original spelling of the word the

It comes from the fact that y was substituted in for รพ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorn_(letter)) once printing began because few printers had the resources to include the latter. The article I linked shows some of the abbreviations formed in this way and from this origin.

Very cool, though.
