.. I'm trying to get rid of a roll of Peace dollars to pay for a new computer that I want to build. trouble is, a roll right now is selling for about $575 on ebay. even though its about $150 over spot, in the past two months, silver dropped from $35/oz and if it were there, id get a few more hundred for them.. anyway, what would you guys do if you were in my shoes? wait til it jumps and then sell? or sell now, build computer..?

I hope somebody comes along with a working crystal ball fo the silver market. I would really like to know how much longer the sub-$30 buying window will be open. Unfortunately, my crystal ball is cracked right now.

I am hopeful that silver will bounce back. Within the last week we have heard about bank problems in Spain and other countries in the EU. Greece may no longer be a part of the EU due to their economy. Our economy is still unstable, plus an upcoming election might bring up the price of silver. Iran is still an issue. I think there is too much uncertainty in the world today for silver not to bounce back.
Are the prices higher if you were to sell the dollars individually?

by selling them individually, its around $25-$27 MaYBE $30 if I'm lucky. most of my dollars are on the higher end of the XF range with some showing some luster. if I got $25 each, I would net around $500. by roll it looks like $575 ive got a wide selection of dates and MM's. mostly, 22-26... i originally started with 50 Peace dollars.... I sold 8 of them for around $250 when silver was closer to $33/oz. I used that for my coin hunting money. so, with 42 left, at this price, I would be giving up an entire roll, about half of my stash....whereas if silver jumped back up to $34ish, I wouldt have to only sell 16/17.. I guess its not that much of a difference... i may post something in the buy it now section if anyone is interested...

Back in the day, it was always computer games that drove me to upgrade my PC every 8 to 12 months or so. Fortunately (for my wallet) I'm off that treadmill these days. If your PC is really down for the count, it might be best to just pull the trigger. Short term price fluctuation are not likely to work in your favor so I'd consider selling based on the urgency of your computer problem. However, if your existing computer is working okay but you just feel it's due for replacement soon, I'd hold on and wait until Ag prices bounce back up. It's gonna happen. There's just too much uncertainty and economic instability in the world to keep silver down for long.

As usual, the answer Coinwatch gave makes good sense to me. I'd run with his idea.

You could do what I have done with precious metals. When prices fluctuate, I tend to sell a few one week, then sell a few more the next week. By doing so, I never have any regrets about selling for a low price, I find I have a better average price.

You look at the longer term trend lines, and the shorter ones as well, and you make your buy / sell decisions accordingly. Depends how far away your investment horizon is.

Fortunately (for my wallet) I'm off that treadmill these days I could have written the same thing, verbatim, CW. We seem to share some common interests, my friend. I agree with Coinwatch (as usual). For me, the choice would be fairly simple. If the PC works, wait. When will silver go back up? Spider was talking about all the uncertainty across the globe causing silver to rise, and intuitively that makes sense. But I've seen just the opposite effect. Uncertainty causes the big players to park their money in T-Bills, which strengthens the dollar and drops PM values. I honestly couldn't begin to guess when silver will be approaching those 2011 highs again. Maybe 20 years from now. Who knows?

$575 on ebay will only get you a little over $500 after ebay and paypal fees, so be careful. Of course, evaluate how much you really need what you intend to buy with the money. Computers lag behind the times as soon as they roll out of the factory floor (I've been on the same laptop for 6 years and it's still going strong!), but only you can decide where that balance between need and want should lie. For me, whether I sell or not now would depend on how much I paid for the lot. If you paid more than $500 on that roll I would count the loss in with the price you are willing to pay for that new computer. If you paid less than $500, the difference between selling now or later when silver is higher (or lower) would only mean you made a bit less (or more) money back.

Use pay-pals "bill me later" feature if the parts you need come from a site that offers that. ^ months no interest if paid in full is great. It is the only credit I use now, and normally pay it off within 4 months. Why pay all at once when I can pay with the dividends my money is earning. It is almost like getting things for free. Then you can build your computer and maybe keep your coins.

thanks for the input guys. not to insult anyone here, it may be taken as a compliment, but when a few of you stated if the my current computer still works, then wait.. doh! well, it does work. I'm just a big techie... from what I complied at newegg.com I can build a computer for $370 that will rank among computers like DELL, gateway, Hp, Compaq, for the next 3 years or so. I know when you buy computers and electronics they can become obsolete rather quickly. and some of you out there know that when you build a computer, keeping up with the times is as easy as spending $50 on a new motherboard or $20 on some RAM...instead of buying a whole new computer AGAIN... anyway, I may just cut some of my losses and sell now, seeing as it wouldnt be that much of a loss had I sold them 2 months ago.. I mean, bottom line, I had converted all that I had roll hunted over the last 2 years into a stockpile of $50 in Peace dollars - so I'm not exactly LOSING money... =D I'm just not getting as much as I know I could have.. i already posted the roll for sale. but I have received a few offers of 5 or so. I guess I would be willing to break up the lot if I had more interest. by he way, what is a good price to set for 5 of them or even 10 or 2, based on some of the completed listings on ebay and from what I have heard, Peace dollars do carry a slight premium...

I only put my money in electronics, when absolutely necessary....
My old HP is from the early 2000, an often I really wanna pull my old goalie stick off the wall, an take it out in the backyard, an open up a can of sorts on it. And I will eventually, that is when I get a new comp, I will beat this one within an inch of its inanimate life, lol....
Key word with the downfall in electronics as far as an investment goes short of paper stock, obsolete. And anymore that takes like three months for a piece to go obsolete....
