I know this is an ancient coin forum and I might get reprimanded for this subject ... I hope not. Soldiers from all eras are part of the reverses on these coins we collect. Today I want to honor the men and women of the United States Armed forces. And especially the ones on this forum. As one Veteran to another I salute you my friend! Let us never forget them!

I'm an ancient USN sailor from ships company on the USS Saratoga so salute to you and other veterans who have served. I especially appreciate those who have fought and sacrificed to defend and preserve this great land of the free. This should probably be under the family topics. Although some would say the country is having some troubles, we always have and work through them together. I love my country and there is no other place I would rather call home.

I am thankful that we are appreciated. It wasn't always like that, as a Viet Nam vet I remember the time that we were looked down upon. I'm glad that our nation has come to relize the sacrifice our troops make every day. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

As a retired Army Officer of 33 years service, from Vietnam through The first Gulf War (and another 10 years after), I am proud to be an American and even prouder still to have served my country. That pride extends to all current and former members of the Armed Forces. I salute you all.

I have been only on this forum and no other's for that I apologize if I'm in the wrong place.
I too am an ancient USN Veteran, and my brother was on the USS Saratoga in the 80's TheNickelGuy. Although I was a US Navy SeaBee, Viet Nam era and like you echizento was not well received when I returned home.
I too am thankful that we are treating our vets with more respect and gratitude.
I love my country and fear for it at the same time. But we are Americans and have overcome great obstacles in the past and we will again!

I am not a veteran, and probably cannot comprehend the sacrifice so many have made, but they all have my respect and gratitude.

Oxos, I though it was ruff being on the rivers, but the SeaBees were really in the thick of it building Fire Bases.

River boats were no picnic echinzento. They were sitting ducks on the delta and rivers. We lost a lot of SeaBees though doing exactly what you described, building bases for the Marines. I feel I like I was more Marine than Fleet Sailor. We trained with them, wore the same uniforms and worked and fought side by side with them when necessary. I'm glad those days are in my rear view mirror. I grieve for these returning vets that are maimed by road side bombs and have post tramatic stess syndrome. But that isn't a new thing, is it? I belong to the Wounded Warrior Project and do what I can for them. They deserve it.

Yeah we had our moments. Navy Seals are tough, but to me the Seabees and Navy Corpman were the best. I did five years with the Navy and sixteen years with the Coast Guard. I was stationed at Port Hueneme which was a big Seabee base. I can't say enough about our vets today, they are asked to give so much returning time after time into harms way. My neices husband is a Marine snipper and has been in the corp for six years and has made four combat tours to Iraq and Afghanstan. They have given him a break and he is now on and LPH deployed for seven months.

I was trained as a SeaBee at Port Hueneme. I'm well familiar with that base. I totally agree that we ask the current veterans to do so much, deployment after deployment. I hope the investment in blood and treasure was worth the effort in Iraq and Afghanstan. Time will tell. Give your neice's husband a big Femper Fi from an ex-Seabee heavy equipment operator! And I salute your service as well, echizento! I'd like to hear your lighthouse stories! Regards.
