Hi, I am not a coin collector and have never used this site so excuse me if I'm in the wrong place.
I found a coin yesterday which has little in the way of markings on one side but some lovely images of ears of wheat (?) and fluer de lys (possibly in a crown) on the other. some lettering but undistinguishable as words to me.
I have attached some pics in the hope that someone can give me any info at all about it,
Many thanks

Hi Laura; it's not easy to identify anything in such a poor condition. It doesn't look like any British coin that I know of but the fleur-de-lis (if that is what it is, or a fern pattern) on one side is at least visible.

It could be a token rather than a coin of the realm, many were made over the past couple of centuries and many look like coins. Indeed some were made to look like coins to deceive.

Unless someone actually recognises the details you may never be able to identify it.

There is a site that has illustrations of tokens; it may pay to trawl through all the pictures...

Good luck with the search; do let us know if you find it.

i enhanced the contrast in photoshop and could make out what looks like "angelo". Maybe a starting point for you... I suspect its a jeton of some sort but I have no idea really...

Angelo (meaning Angel) was used on tokens and coins and carried on the person as a kind of protection.
In fact you can still but Angel coins. I should imagine that there are dozens of designs so it may be difficult to track down.

Thank you all for replying, I have had an interesting couple of hours reading about tokens etc, which I had no knowledge of before. It seems that the item will never be identified but I have enjoyed the process non-the-less.
Thanks again, Laura.
