A couple of weeks ago, I sold a restored 1921 S Buffalo nickel. I get this GREAT feedback from the buyer:

"Not a real nickel, very good fake.Weighs less is bigger, won't fit into the folder"

He left it as a neutral feedback, which I'm thankful for at the least.

Of course it weighs less, the chemical I use (along with others) eats at the nickel slightly, making it weigh less. He says it is bigger, which it isn't. Like all my other nickels, they are slightly smaller for the same reason, and show so in the 2x2 NICKEL cardboard flips I put them in. Why does he think it is bigger? His keyword in the feedback I think is the word, "folder". I'm fairly certain he bought a Whittman folder, and it wouldn't fit well in that slot. I'm sure many of you can agree that some of the holes are too small for whatever coin you're trying to fit, and others are too large, and often fall out when you open the folder. I know I have had this problem, and have talked to others that have had the same issue with the folders. That's why they are inexpensive.

Anyway, I called ebay the day I got the feedback, and explained the situation. They lady on the phone said it was DEFINITELY feedback manipulation, and she walked me through the process to get it removed. Today, after not hearing from ebay since I submitting the form, I call them back. They tell me there is nothing they can do, and that I can always respond to that feedback with my side.

Great, thanks ebay! Siding with the buyer, as usual. Buyers have a tendency to get away with murder on that site.

I offer a 14 day return policy (so that I can become a top-rated seller on this account, too). He didn't ask to return it, or send me a message in general, and he didn't even file a claim with PayPal for his money back. IF the coin is fake (which it isn't), why wouldn't he want his money back? Yeah, that makes complete sense. After I received the feedback, I sent a nice polite message to him asking him about it, to which he didn't respond. I even reminded him about the 14 day return policy. On top of that, he didn't give me ANY low DSR's (meaning 1 or 2 star ratings).

This is a rant more than anything, so I apologize for wasting everyone's time. I have been using ebay since 1998 (I was 14 at the time), and still at that age, bought and sold on there under my mother's account that she set up just for me. I have never received any neutral or negative feedback in that time, and my other account is a top-rated power seller. I'm just so irritated because I'm just starting this account (although this was the account I made when I turned 18), and a neutral feedback when you only have 30 feedback in my eyes is really bad, especially when it is making a statement as such.

I'm going to take the high road when it comes to my response (since it won't be removed), and explain the facts. That if it were fake, why didn't he ask for a refund or return it, and that he didn't even bother to message me.

Actually, I do have a question after reading what I just wrote.

Do you think it is fair feedback, or unfair?

I know nothing about the transaction so I wont comment one way or another.

However I do think ebay would be well served to have some sort of feedback policing. In this instance the feedback was clearly negative yet the ratings you said were positive. What I think they should do is remove any feedback where the comments or the stars dont match up. If you leave a negative comment youre either being a dick or were actually unhappy. If its the first one it does no one any good, if you really are unhappy theres the return option or your should give a bad rating as well. Not a good rating and bad comments or a bad rating and good comments.

What can you expect from a buyer who regularly buys those "unsearched" rolls with Indian pennies on each end and Lincolns in the middle or other such nonsense? Doesn't look like he's ever purchased a chemically altered nickel before and, based on his reaction, isn't apt to do it again. Why aren't you selling using your top-rated power seller account? Oh, yeah. I forgot. You wanted to use the account you made up that mimics MINE so that you can attract people who might want to buy restored Buffalo nickels.
