The last 5 on Heritage went for $34.5k, $36.2k, $48.9k, $34.5k and $40.3k. So it's maybe on the high side but in the ballpark of recent results.

Yeah, I would have started it at $35k myself and see if I could get more, considering two of the last five didn't even make that number.

If the Heritage price included the buyer premium, then it would be high to start at $40K, even though GC Auction is 10% buyer fee.

I wonder if that would be sent USPS. The prices listed would be $3.00 plus $0.50 per coin. So regardless of how much you paid for that coin, the shipping is really cheap. I was thinking about bidding on this but I'd need a roll of those, not just one.  |

Always the question. Do you start low to invite competitive bidding; or do you go close to what you want because of the fear of selling too low?

Maybe they're just testing the market, or maybe they can't handle the risk/uncertainty that comes with selling an expensive item at auction with no minimum price. The whole reserve feature in my mind is just dumb and irritating. Bidding wars do happen but I think people tend to believe they will happen a lot more than they really do, and assume they get more out of control than they really do. As a buyer what do you normally do for auctions you're interested in - do you not try to avoid bidding wars? Also looking at this auction as a failure just because it didn't sell or get any bids is the wrong way to view the situation. It just didn't sell for the seller's minimum price and clearly the seller in fact had one. Auctions are really high variance in general and he decided not to take that chance, nothing wrong with that. |

Seriously, I sell on the bay. And I rarely have bidding wars anymore. In fact it is rare that I get bidders in the last 30 minutes.
Now; if I'm bidding on something and find it at the last few minutes, you can bet your last dollar that someone will bid in the last minute!
Back in the day when the bay was seller friendly you used to get bidding wars all the time. I rarely have an item that does not sell, however; I have sold a few things at 99 cents. Not much but enough to be irritating. And when you sell a 1963 Pontiac Tripower Intake Manifold for 99 cents, believe me it gets irritating! Especially when they complain about the shipping cost, and believe me it cost plenty to ship that heavy cast iron...thing.
But to illustrate the hazzards of the bay....4 days later I had a second 63 Manifold sell.....for $225. Go figure.
