I have been feeling in the gambling mood lately and decided to make an ebay purchase. I am taking a chance that the sellers obverse picture is out of focus and has the same level of details as the reverse. I think I have attributed it but am a little uncertain. I shall post pictures when the coin arrives.

Well, it looks like a total winner, to me ... but apparently my street-word is worth about $4 bucks!!

I see nothing wrong and a lot that is right. I assume you realize that Geta as Augustus is generally a premium item over his coins as Caesar.

Quote: I assume you realize that Geta as Augustus is generally a premium item over his coins as Caesar I was not aware of this. How much of a premium (assuming this coin is authentic which I will be verifying via photo-micrograph).

I also think your coin will look nicer in person. It also helps me imagine what these coins looked like in Roman times.

Nice coin. No reason to think it is not authentic.

I have a question for any of you history buffs. When considering Caracalla damned Geta's memory in 211AD after he had his assassinated, did this also apply to all the previously minted coins of Geta? Are coins of Geta with his name intact scarce?

It looks very nice indeed. I started a small collection of the Geta as Augustus. Due to Geta's short time as Augustus combined with an edict from Caracalla that all images of his brother be destroyed the coins as Augustus are much scarcer than Get as Caesar. Here are my Geta, Genius coins from the type as Caesar through to a couple of Augustus coins. I found them a very interesting series to collect. RIC 059a without beard. RIC 059a with full beard. RIC 067 RIC 067 RIC 070a RIC 070b Martin

Beautiful coins maridvnvm! I also find this series of interest due to the interesting history. Only three emperors are known to have received the damnatio memoriae (memory damned), Domitian, Geta, and Maximian. I really want to find a coin with his name scratched off.

I acquired quite a few other reverse types too in this interesting series. My favourite is shown below:- Geta denarius Obv:-- IMP CAES P SEPT GETA PIVS AVG, Laureate head right Rev:-- PONTIF TR P COS II, Geta on horseback riding left, spearing enemy beneath. Minted in Rome. A.D. 209 Reference:-- BMC p. 359 17. RIC 68 (Rated Rare), RSC 130. Only 4 examples in RD so quite a rare coin on that basis. Martin
