Like the Crispus, my attention was drawn to this Arcadius because of the reverse. In particular, the armored body of Arcadius. The coin is nothing spectacular in condition nor is it rare. However, I've never seen the armor so pronounced. The coin is an AE3, RIC X 60, struck at Constantinople 383-388 AD:
Armored-Arcadius

OBV: D N ARCADIVS P F AVG, diademed, draped & cuirassed bust right
REV: VIRTVS EXERCITI, emperor standing facing, holding spear & sheild, being crowned by Victory standing left, CONSB in ex.

I always think of arcadius coins as very small ae4's and so far I don't have any nice coins from this emperor. This is a very nice coin JW and I really have to get a nice armored reverse like this too now. Nice find!

chrsmat71: I can't make out the mintmark on your coin. Is it Alexandria?

Great coin jw

My Honorius has the same reverse but the armor is worn down a little more. Reverse is still really well struck though.

chrsmat71: I believe then that your coin is from RIC X rather then RIC IX. Not a bad looking coin at all. Now that you see the armor on steroids on my coin, it's easier to see the armor on your coin.
