Hi,
I got some coins from my grandfather who use to collect roman coins.

How can I tell what grade they are in. For example the coin below. Sorry my scanner flipped the head side of the coin , and I did not know how to unflip it so its reversed from the actual direction it is facing.

Coin-Grading-?

Hi cjaccardi,

.... very nice coin, great color, well struck, they don't grade Ancients like modern coins, if were a modern coin I would grade this coin x-fine to almost uncirculated... very nice to have in your in your collection...

I would say EF, Extremely Fine. There is a bit of metal showing on the ear, where I think the patina worn off, or over-cleaned.

You can read more about grading here.

cjaccardi: to the CCF!

By the looks of the coin you have posted, your grandfather knew what he was doing. That one is a beauty!

This coin is not quite mint state, for the same reason, I agree with Gil-gilad.
