I'm stashing all full steps nickels as I find them hunting bank rolls of nickels..I'm very tough on grading, and, any cuts or dings that run longer than 1 step, don't get the cut..I'm probably putting coins back in the bone pile that may fly, but, would rather be safe..(I've seen SO many marked "FS"
nickels in albums at shows that really are not, it's scary, and, had a few dogs off ebay that said they were, when not..another story)
Anyway, my question is on the 2010 & 2011 nickels...I have a few on the bottom step has lots of small nicks, but, confined to that step only, and, not major cutlines..the other 5 steps are flawless....will these qualify as FS nickels? I can post a pic, maybe..it's a bit hard to get in that close with camera. I have accumulated all of 3 nickels, out of my stash of 35 with "pure" flawless steps, and no nicks...those are fun to find....I know the base is technically not considered a step, or, at least I think I've read that...anyway, that's where the minor nicks are, on my coins in question....

I have seen designations of 5 and 6 steps on slab inserts, although these were for older Jefferson's. I am pretty sure that almost ALL of the 21st Century Jefferson's have 5+ steps because of a major rework or the master hub dies, with no additional value.

I have been wrong before.

Yeah, I think even back into the mid 1990's you are going to find plenty of full step nickels. Nothing wrong with keeping those that might grade MS68 or so but try this with earlier nickels.
