OK went to barners and noble today and they had two differnt world coin books. both by krause books (KP)

2007 Standard Catalog of World Coins, 1901-2000 - Official 34th Edition for 55.00 Pages: 2064

Collecting World Coins, More Than a Century of Circulating Issues 1901-Present - 11th Edition $35.00 Pages: 888

ok I know that stardard is suppost to be far beter but they both seem very simalar so is the standard worth 20 more then the collecting world coin book. Looking through it it seem to have most thing but seem like that standards is about 1200 more pages is there that main more coin in the standards.

So what one should I get if I am wanting to collect world coin along side my US coins. Just not sure if standard is worth 20 more but if it is let me know

The Circulating Issues book is supposed to contain only the coins that have really circulated. So you will not find any of those shiny proof issues made for collectors. I never possessed it but was told that some commemorative issues that were also used for circulation could not be found in that book.
So it depends of which coins you have in your collection, to decide if you need the regular issue or not.

I would but Standard Catalog. You could look on ebay for the 2006 version which covers coins thru to 2005/6.

That would depend on the coin and its grade. Some are up, some are down and some are up a lot.

I only have a 2004 version at the moment but am waiting on a 2006 version to arrive in the mail.

It is always best to get the MOST informtion possible consistant with your collecting interests and your budget.

All catalogs have limits. The Krause "Standard" series are best for the average world collector, but there are numerous supplements once you start to focus. If you look at the US listings in Krause - they are OK but less complete than Red Book and far less complete than Breen's encyclopedia. The same goes for every other series of coins.

If you look in Krause for the Mexican Profile Eagle series of coins the entire entry covers less than 2 pages. But the same subject is treated at book length in Hubbard and O'Harrow's book "Hooknecks". You could not hope to collect Profile Eagle coins intelligently with only Krause.

I hope that is a clear expression of my thoughts.
