I decided to start out with Lincoln cents and Jefferson nickels. (7100 and 7113) Is there anything I should know about before transferring my coins? I remember reading somewhere someone said that he used a can of compressed air to blow out any dust that was left over from the manufacturing process.

Thanks! Whats the best way to open the slides without pushing down on the slides themselves? I can see myself possibly damaging my coins this way. Seems pretty tricky just to get the slides to move.

If there is at least one empty hole, I press down over it and move the slide out enough to expose the edge. I then pull it the rest of the way out.
If I ever had a need to move the slides out when all of the holes are full, I would use a small piece of masking tape to gently "grab" the slide.

Ah that makes sense. I hate to ask a bunch of "newbie" questions but what about inserting and removing coins? I have read that some people say to push your coins in as far as it will go so it touches the back slide. But never remove the back slide. To remove a coin, gently push up on the back slide pushing the coins out. Any thoughts?

You would think after making a gazillion coin albums, Dansco would have a small tab at the end of the plastic slide, to make pushing in/out easier...another technical aspect for the "dream" custom album...I always use those littleton cotton gloves when putting coins in an album(proofs downright demand that, or, instant problem)..while a bit difficult at first, due to odd way gloves feel, you get the hang of inserting pretty fast, and, they protect ALL coins from your unseen grease/fingerprints, which, over time, can leave a nasty toning image you don't want. Push coins gently, to right below the top rim, and leave them from touching the bottom slider, to prevent any hairline damage. I have a question on the Dansco with Proofs, Jefferson album...for 1968, and 1969 and 1970, are there 3 ports..1968-D, 1968-S(Business strike), and 1968-S(proof)?---same for '69 & 70? Then, in 1971, it should change to 1971-P--1971-D--1971-S(proof)...just checking, as my US MINT Album(1938-2003) does not have the business strike slot for those 3 years, and, I guess they figured most would fill with the proof nickel in the S-Slot. Again, I have said this over and over..a "complete album" with proofs should be just that, and, in many years for Dansco, it is not the case(I don't think they have slots for the SMS 1994 5c, or, 1997 5c, among other things, like all the satin finish coins, 2005-2010.

Quote: I hate to ask a bunch of "newbie" questions No need to hate, this is what we are here for. Quote: but what about inserting and removing coins? With thicker coins (halves and dollars) this is the case, but with thinner ones, I try to keep the coin centered. However, some holes are loose so the coin will move around over time. I do not like to upgrade my coins, so I seldom have a need to get them out of the album. However, on the rare occasion that I do need to remove a coin, I pull both slides out and push the coin out through the back. I use the soft cotton cloths, one to push the coin and another for the coin to land on.
