No, not the U.S, Civil War of the 19th Century, but the Macedonian Civil War of the Third Century BC. I was able to pick this coin up for a song. It's not in the greatest of conditions, but I found it interesting. The reverse depicts a Macedonian Cavalry Helmet while the obverse depicts a shield. The seller had it attributed as Sear 6782 which was struck between 288-277 BC during the interregnum following the overthrow of Demetrios Poliorketes of the Macedonian Kingdom:

Civil-War-Coin

OBV: Macedonian sheild with thunderbolt at center
REV: B-A either side of Macedonian helmet
16mm, 4.46g.

That's what drew my attention to it, and for $8.50 how could I pass it up?

Nice pickup. Been looking at cheap Greeks myself recently.

A little worried though about those green spots, esp on the reverse. Hopefully it isn't BD.

You are correct. However, I own only four Greek coins and that's if the Jewish Prutah is counted (since the legend is in Greek). No, I don't think I will ever be much on collecting Greek coins. Mostly they are too expensive for me. But the main reason is the lack of continuity like the Roman coins. Also I don't read but a smidgen of Greek which makes it much harder for me. But I do like the looks of Greek coins for sure.

Jerry, I remember. Your coin is what made me look at this coin in the first place. Soooo, it's all your fault and that's what I'm gonna tell my wife. Your coin is in much better condition though. Wanna trade?

Thanks, Steve. Now I'll be afraid to travel to Canada lest I should run into your wife.
