Okay forget about the AM for now. Check the initials. Are they close to the monument or are they further away from the monument. Go here http://lincolncentresource.com/wideams.html and scroll down the page a little for the pictures.

This is what you need to check right now.

Can I just tell you how happy I am that you stuck around Rocktowngirl! Look at you giving the advice now! I remember when you were so frustrated I thought we lost you!

Sorry, that's a normal WAM reverse of the 92, no doubt even with the fuzzy pics.

The biggest difference between the close and Wide AM cents - which everyone here seems to skip - is the fact that the word STATES is spaced differently between the two, especially in "TAT".

The wide-AM (normal through 1992) has these three letters evenly spaced.

the close-AM (normal from 1993-2008) has the A much closer to the second T.

The difference is obvious to the naked eye.

The coin that started this thread is a normal wide-AM.

Wow ... hard to believe this thread made it this long with the enthusiastic OP thinking of a rare fine.

with BadThad and coppercoins ... an obvious 'normal' Wide AM despite the blurry photos. The three key reverse diagnostics are apparent even from here.

Appreciate everyone's contributions ... all learn together ... sooooo ... be positive bpositive.

thanks for all the information everyone. this helps A lot! Also I find its good to have a thread about this Close AM... it should help a couple people distinguish what's what. :)

PS: found a 1941 quarter + A 40 roll of NEW colour quarters in 35 rolls. :)

This just means that a lot of people attributing coins here and delving out advice don't really know what they are talking about.
