I know the mint has a return policy for a little while after you get it where you can send anything back for another. Not sure how long youve had it, I would suggest calling them and explaining the situation and see if you could get a replacement. If they arent selling those from the mint anymore youre probably out of luck

Could be trapped lint from the packaging, slivers of plastic, paper, and yes, even what looks like human hairs. The SF mint isn't a clean room, so ordinarily the products that come from there are sealed in with debris. Not every single item, mind you, but often enough that most collectors aren't too concerned, unless large enough to cause scratching, which would warrant an immediate return. The return period is 7 days. You might call them, if it really bugs you, to see what they can do if you've passed the 7 day return window.

This is just me speaking out loud. If they don't take it back and I don't want these coins to get ruin cause there my daughters and if I have to tell her and she's 6 that they are she would flip she loves collecting coins should I have them slabbed or just leave it and hope that's not a booger on my coins lol

FYI...... You may have to go through 2, 3, or even 4 different Sets before you find one that makes you satisfied. The Mints "quality control" isn't very wonderful. If you keep returning them......and so does everyone else, maybe they will take a look at their production lines and try to improve some things. But I doubt it....

I go along with just looking for a new one. They are not rare so you should find one much better. Then just swap them and do what ever you want with that one. Much easier than fighting with the Mint.

The Mint is still selling the 2011 proof sets on their web site, so you can order a new one and just send back the old one. Just don't tell them. They'll never know and it works out the same for you. You have to pay for return shipping though. http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ory_rn=10211But from those photos, I can't see what you are talking about.

Probably best just to buy another one from a dealer in a year or two. Values on the clad proof sets have been dropping below issue price except for 2008 and 2010, so you might be able to cherry pick a nice set for less money later. Is the aggravation of packaging, shipping and waiting for a replacement that might not be better worth the trouble?
