I have always felt that the reason no 1998,1999, or 2000 Denver cents have been found with the Proof Die reverse (
Wide AM) is because since 1996 Denver has produced their own dies. Philadelphia produces the dies for the Philadelphia business strikes, and San Francisco's Proofs. Denver doesn't deal with the Proof dies, so no mix-ups can occur in Denver. Since both types of reverse dies are made in Philadelphia, mix-ups can occur. Wouldn't surprise me if more years of post-1992 Philadelphia circulation cents turn up with
WAM's. I'm always on the lookout for them. Supposedly a 1996
WAM exists but there has been nothing in the numismatic press regarding it for quite some time.
