Your "K" his taken a hit from another object which has flattened that portion of it out. If you look you can see where the metal has expanded semi-circular around the top portion of the K. If you notice the top end of the G has taken a similar hit but with less force then the K which only caused it to flatten a bit.

It is a contact mark, most likely from another coin.

Pound out the entire right side of that K and you'll have a rare "1G" penny! Who knows? Might worth 2 cents then.
