I am not sure where to post this at, so I hope it is alright to post here. I recently got engaged. I bought a Leo Diamond solitare from Kay Jewelers. I later bought a Michael Werdiger mounting to put the Leo in. I now have the original Leo band as scrap. What is the best thing to do with it. I was thinking of trading it in for some nice silver coins. Not sure of the best place to take it. It is 14K white gold and according to my scale is roughtly 0.13 grams. I figure I will not get much for it but enough for a new coin or two. Also, does anyone know if the small diamond that is used on the inside of the band in the word LEO (the O is a diamond) is worth saving out of it? I appreciate any and all feedback or comments. Cheers

If your weight of .13g is correct it only has about $3.50 melt in gold. No the diamond is not worth a premium. I am assuming it is a single chip.

Thought that seemed light. so about $109 melt. Get at least $85...that is about 76%.

Have you ever gone to Columbus Coin Exchange on Columbus avenue in Bay city?, he buys gold and pay a fair price. But don't buy any coins from him because he was/is a heavy smoker and I am sure that smoke gets on his inventory John1

I have been there a couple of times. I vowed to never go back after how he treated me. I really like Flying Eagle coin on Washington in Bay City. The owner, Don, is an awesome guy.

Don is my main shop I go to but he pays a little less in most cases. Maybe you could do a trade for the ring and get a better deal then if you only sell it to him for cash. John1

I will check the place on washington. Do you happen to know the owners name? I go and chat with Don on a weekly bases. I have mentioned bringing in the ring. He has told me before that he is really not into buying too much scrap gold or silver. He got "dooped" once. He said to bring it in and see what it is worth. I just feel that if I take it in there and do not like the price, I will feel obligated to still sell. Not sure. I really do not want cash all that much, would rather get some silver bullion or something like that. Don is on vacation for the next couple of weeks though... think he gets back on the 23rd

keep it, not worth selling. Give it to your eventual daughter or son.

There is also a pawn shop downtown Bay City on Washington I think that buys jewelry. I sold a ring there a few years ago. John1

When you talk about weights you should use pennyweights or grams, just makes it easier to measure IMO.
