Did anyone see the 1804 Bust Dime recently auctioned on ebay? This was a really worn puppy who obviously had seen a lot of service but as is typical for serendipity just enough of the design was present to show the fourteen star pattern on the reverse. The bottom of the bust was present as well as the tops of 180_ of the date. The very top of the 4 could also be seen and the angle was such that you could speculate it was a 4, but the 14 star pattern clinched the deal. Almost providential when you see how worn the rest of the design is. http://cgi.ebay.com/330745036051

Seems like alot of money. The Red Book has it AG3 $700, and the book is high. I guess someone really wanted it.

Tough coin. I would still like to see more of the date before throwing over a grand on that coin.

Even with the incredibly low mintage, even with numismedia saying FMV for a G is over 3K, the condition of this dime would only satisfy the most obsessed collector - with money to burn.

PCGS says the estimated survival rate for the 14 star variety is around 20 coins.even triple that you are talking about a seriously rare coin. I would grade this somewhere between a P1 and F2. The thing that amazes me is that the. Coin can be definitively. Identified as to type given how worn it is. Not every rarity is a thing of beauty. Have you checked out the condition of the Declaration of Independence lately?
