Since I'm roll hunting dimes right now, I just wanted to know if there are any notorious dime errors or varieties that I should look out for and are worth holding on to? Thanks in advance.

A 1965 silver dime or a 1982 no p dime would bring back a very nice chunk of change

Im not a dime expert I'm sure theres definitely a lot more like that. But basically anything that double struck, off centered ect would have extra value too. And of course any silver ones

There has to be more than two - I don't have my iPad near by, but Ken Potter's book "Strike it Rich with Pocket Change" had several varieties listed - above and beyond the two mentioned prior.

That's funny because I just came on here looking for "The Dime List." Similar to the cent varieties (1969, 72, 84, 88-rdv006, wams, cams....etc.) -or- half dollar varieties (72 DDO, No FG's, 74D DDO.... etc)

I know there has to be a "list" somewhere on here, but I can't find it after searching- if someone can post a link to the forum would be greatly appreciated! If not, I'll try to run through Potter's book and snag the years/mm's to look for.

I cant verify how accurate this list is that I just found and it does look legit, but it is supposed to be from Ken Potters book as mentioned above.

Roosevelt Dime Varieties

1946-D/D 10c RPM#1 (VCR#1/RPM#1) A very nice D/D East! MS62 $10.00, MS63 $14.50, MS64 $18.00

1946-D 10c Doubled Die Obverse shows moderate on "BER & Y" of LIBERTY shifted towards center; light on forehead. More is probably evident on earlier stages. Unlisted in the CONECA Master Listing. MS63 $12.50, MS64 $15.00, MS65 $19.95

1946-D/D 10c RPM#15 D/D North MS63 $20.00

1946-D 10c Doubled Die Obverse shows moderate on "BER & Y" of LIBERTY shifted towards center; light on forehead. More is probably evident on earlier stages. Unlisted in the CONECA Master Listing. MS63 $12.50, MS64 $15.00, MS65 $19.95

1946-S/S 10c RPM#4 S/S + Doubled Die Reverse #5; moderate spread on ONE DIME, UNUM, etc. MS64/+ $35.00, ANACS-64 FSB (slab only notes that there is an S/S on the coin in spite of the fact this is a long-known multiple variety) $45.00

1946-S/S 10c RPM#7 S/S West MS63 $14.50, MS64 $18.00

1946-S/S 10c RPM#8 S/S North + Doubled Die Obverse#5; moderate on Liberty; light on IGWT & profile. MS64 $50.00

1946-S/S 10c RPM#8 S/S North + Doubled Die Obverse#5; very late die state obverse, hub dbl subdued. MS64 $25.00

1947-S/D 10c VCR#1/OMM#1, FS#10c-012. Shows as an S over a D. This is a rare coin that trends at $350.00 for a raw MS63 in The CherryPickers Guide! We offer: MS64/++ (maybe MS65) blast white $425.00, ICG-64; obv somewhat milky but attractive to the naked eye/rev is nearly bright white $375.00

1947-S/S 10c RPM#2 S/S North. Nice strong RPM from original roll! MS63/+ ...$15.95, MS65 $20.00

1947-S 10c Doubled Die Reverse FS#10c-0135 Late Die State (see CherryPickers' Guide for photos); lists in Cherrypickers' in MS63 for $195. Frosty white MS63...$55.00, Frosty white MS64 $75.00

1950-S over Inverted S (So-Called "S over D") 10c This is CONECA's old OMM#1 and the CherryPickers' Guide FS-014.5. It is the so-called "S over D" that is misattributed as such in the Red Book, The Authoritative Reference on Roosevelt dimes, CherryPickers' Guide and until recently, in the CONECA files. Recent overlays created by Ken Potter and Billy Crawford (independent of one another) have demonstrated that a D Mint mark does not match the underlying image below the S on this coin but that an Inverted S is a "perfect fit" (as has been suspected by some specialists for years). Ken Potter, Billy Crawford, John Wexler and James Wiles have all indicated that the overlays debunk the "S/D" theory and will be listing it as an S/Inv/S. It it actually an S over Inverted S is a truly rare variety type in it's own right. In fact Vertical over Inverted Mint Mark varieties are far less common on United States coinage then Over Mint Marks! No matter what you want to call it, it is a major variety that here to stay since it's listing in the Red Book cemented it in as a "must have" to collectors of the series. The example we offer here is virtually blast-white with hints of attractive toning just beginning to show. It is a high-end MS64 with a shot at MS65! See the pictures by clicking on the link above. ANACS-64 $499.00 SOLD

1951-D/D 10c RPM#1 D/D North MS62...$12.00, MS63...$15.00, MS64...$19, MS65 light attractive toning $22.00

1952-S/S 10c RPM#1 Wide S/S Northwest. Very Nice! Ch BU $35.00

1959-D/D 10c RPM#1 D/D North. Very Strong! MS64/5 $35.00

1964-P&D 10c "Pointed 9" Breen#3757 & #3759 BU set as pulled from the rolls $12.00

1964-P&D 10c "Pointed 9" Breen#3757 & #3759; hand picked MS64 (or better) $15.00

1979-S Proof 10c Ty-2 Mint Mark "Clear S" Proof-65 $2.50

basebal - I think that list might be from his website or wexler's.

His book focuses on things you are likely to find in pocket change and rarely covers anything pre 64

I grabbed my iPad and am going through it now... some on here do not command much of a premium.
Ex: 1966 DDR - look for notching on the torch and AMERICA - EF- $1, AU-2. UNC-15

If there isn't a list on here (I'm thinking there has to be one on the dime hunters thread) I'll put a quicky one together.

Lonz I felt like it was a pretty incomplete list but seemed to be the closest I could find. It would be nice to know the modern ones to check for. I feel like at some point I've probably had a few but didnt know what to look for

Try the coin shops...ask for ALL 1983 proof sets...look for the NO-S Dime....I've nabbed 3 in 3 years, and made quite a chunk of change from sets that cost no more than 7.50....sometimes the shops are so busy buying bullion & coin albums, they just toss the proof sets in boxes, and don't take the time to cherry them....also, if your REALLY lucky, there is a No-S dime for Proofs 1968, 1970, and, the incredibly rare 1975. You just never know when it's going to be your big day in this hobby.

Hey, I'm a die hard Obsessive / Compulsive Lincoln Cent collector, though I recently checked out a 1967 Roosevelt DDO / DDR dime I've been ignoring for some time now, and found it on "The Coin Guys", Bubba & Zemo'S, top ten list valued at $450.00 in MS63. Oddly, I've yet to corroborate this lofty rating anywhere else. In truth, there just isn't a denomination out there that possesses Mr. Lincoln's magnetic mystique. I'd love to see more info on this 1967, clearly, -split serifs abound on both Obv. & Rev- Roosevelt DDO / DDR. Till then, good hunting!

Don't forget the 1969, 1970, and 1970-D Proof Reverse of 1968 with the enhanced flame. These aren't worth much, but a roll can sell for around $20 or more.
