Can this coin be cleaned with Verdi-Care or is it a lost cause? Thanks.

Verdi-Care would conserve it and stop further corrosion, but it will not remove the corrosion that is already there. That coin is a lost cause. It's a very common date and not worth any amount of effort at conservation. I think I would just spend it somewhere or if you save copper cents, throw it in the junk copper bin.

Heavy verdigris cannot be removed with VC. I agree with CWB.

Seeing as Lincoln's face has been obliterated by corrosion, I would have to say it is probably not salvagable.

Would verdicare work for cleaning 1943 steel cents as well or does the steel need a different cleaner?

VC is NOT a cleaner. It will only remove light, organic surface debris from a 43 steel cent. It will not remove rust or zinc oxides.
