So, I get a text from my Dad this weekend saying that he and my mom have some coins that my grandfather left behind when he passed and they are thinking about selling them. My grandfather passed almost 6 years ago and was not a coin collector per-say but like many people of he generation he had a habit of stashing money away in different places in the house and his safe.

In addition to a decent amount of "junk silver coins" my grandpa had stashed away $270 in Ike's. Needless to say I am the proud owner of a ton of circulated Eisenhower dollars!

Cool! Have fun sifting through those. If you find any nice BU's, I've just started an album... :)

CelticKnot I will keep an eye out. The funny thing is that I had just started an album of Ike's myself a little over a month ago.

This is my favorite so far:

Ike-Stash

I am not sure how to get the color to come out better but this one is a real dark bronze looking color with an almost black rim. Certainly enjoying myself today (and probably for awhile with 270 Ike's to search through).

I remember collecting Ikes in the 1970's in Vegas. So many of them ran through the Dollar Slots that most developed a circular scratch on both sides just back from the rim.

A few years ago I looked at my old collection, scratched and incomplete.
Bought a Dansco on ebay complete with BU and all Proofs. Sure looks pretty, but I had more fun collecting them over the years instead of in 1 day!

I've been traveling around the local banks looking for Ikes and few other odd ball dollars. So far I've amassed over 200 coins. Someday I'm going to have to start putting them into an album. However, it's much more fun to use them a poker chips in my Friday night poker game. I also use the presidential and Sac dollar coins as chips also. But it is really a lot more fun to use the Ike's. I don't have enough Morgan or Peace dollars to do the job and besides they cost to much to play games with when compared to the new Presidential dollars.
