Hi I just bought a bunch of lower grade Large Cents. No holes just lots of wear and a couple bent or scratched ones. I was filling my book and picking out better one of what I had and what I got. When I got to 1848 They looked alot different. As you can see in the pics, #1 the Dates look different, the rims are different, Pic #2 the Letters look different, same thing for rim. And Pic #3 the thickenss is a lot different. I know these are not the greatest coins ever, but can anyone offer any info on them? is one some kind of variety or something? Thanks For your Help. Rob

Braided hair cents always get that Evil Overlord look when they wear. That's why I'd never get one below F. Almost as scary as Liberty on the chain cent.

The two are actually the same, one is just extremely with details worn down to the base which makes them look wider.

There are at least 40 varieties of 1848 large cent identified. Your two coins are two different varieties, the date lettering is not the same on both of your coins.
