There are 5 slots for 1839 in the Dansco book.

The middle three I get. The Head of 1838 beaded is the 3rd head. The Silly is the 4th head and the Booby is the 5th head.

What goes in the slot labelled 1839? Is that the 2nd head which should be a 9/6? That's a pretty rare one isn't it?

What goes in the last one labelled Petite? Is that the 6th head? I see on PCGS a Petite head and an 1840 head. They both look the same to me. Are they?

Thanks
Rob

The Red Book shows 5 different 1839's.
1. 1839/6 with plain hair cords.
2. Head of 38 with beaded cords.
3. Silly Head.
4. Booby Head
5. Braided Hair type of 1840.

One of the reasons my Large Cent Album is year only. Just one of each year.

The Petite head and head of 1840 are the same thing.
There are five different head styles in 1839, head of 36, Head of 38, silly head, booby head, and head of 40. Now since the first hole is not labeled you have a choice, put the fifth head the Head of 36 in there which is rather expensive (but not that scarce), or duplicate one of the other heads. (It is possible to duplicate a head but use a different variety. There are two varieties of the head of 38, two silly heads, and nine booby heads. The head of 36 and head of 40 are found on a single variety for each.)

Thanks for the info. I recently got the Dansco album, so when I moved my collection from a reasonably full Whitman book, it looks quite empty!

Is there a list somewhere on the web that cross referenced the RedBook names with the numeric designations? Maybe with pics?
