I put a Buffalo nickel back into circulation today at a vending machine. It had a bit of unsightly verdigris but is otherwise a nice coin. Also circulated a 1940 and 1941 Jefferson nickel ; condition of those was F/VF.

Great idea! I might attract a new collector some day. I have heard this being done at coin shows, like at the concession stand.

I've been doing things like that for many years now. I normally put any change in a small bank and eventually take it to a bank. When I do, I throw in coins like a 1944 Lincoln Cent or a datelss Buffalo nickel.

I saw a Wheat penny today in one of the donation boxes. I was tempted to take it out but it was a one way only donation box

I have made change from the collection plate at church on Sunday and have received a lot of evil looks but I really didn't want to put a $100 in the plate.

I am going to start putting Liberty nickels in circulation...I have so many rubbed down AGs that I would rather allow someone the feeling of "HOLY S***, WHAT IS THIS?" and than of course the follow up feeling of "Oh" once they research online. BUT it might bring them into the addiction and after all, isn't that the goal?

I get new "D" Mint Quarters form the Denver Mint Gift Shop, and I always spend a certain amount of them. On Feb. 12, 2009 (the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth), I spent 43 common-date Wheat Cents (at least one in every transaction I made on that day). Next year (2013) is the 100th anniversary of the Buffalo nickel's debut. Which gives me an idea...

Some years ago a local coin club put an ad in the newspaper stating that on a certain day members of the coin club were going to put into circulation ten coins valued at $10.00 each at various stores around town and if anyone found one to bring it to the coin show the next weekend and the club would buy it back. The attendance at the coin show was greatly increased because of this and the dealers reported robust sales. It got people to take note of the change in their pockets/purses. Ed ANA LM-3175
