So I found this guy in BARTER section of Craigslist who has a real nice 10K chain and V pendant with 1 an 1/2 carrot of diamonds as well as a 7 inch 18K bracelet with 1/2 carrot of diamonds. Said it all appraised at Kays recently at 1k, and from pics sounds about right.... Called him up to talk about a trade possibly as he listed it in barter section.... His 15 year old son wants a collection of vinyl records as he is into rock from the 70's and 80's, Pink Floyd and such.... Pops wants a chainsaw..... O.K. I said give me a few days and I will get back to you.... Three hours later I had secured a McCullough Timber-bear 20 inch 160 psi slightly used gem, as well as 21 vinyls.... I got some Frank Zappa, Peter Townsend, RARE Jimmy Hendrix 1972 live in London, The Wall, Dark side of the moon, Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who, Journey's main album from 81, three Jefferson Star-ships, freakin Herman and the Hermits. I got some real gems, lol.... Called the guy back and told him the list, and he said it was exactly what his kid was wanting and the chainsaw he said was the perfect size for his land, as he has a smaller 16 inch model.... We will see if it indeed works out, and the trade goes through. It could turn out to be fake, or limited gold weight with a bunch of worthless cut diamonds. But from the pictures, I have a strong feeling this is not the case, it looks legit. Should be a fun experiment, will see how my first attempt at bartering turns out .... If it does work out, I will sell the two pieces and then turn them into some solid pmz..... Edited by Silverhawk74 06/24/2012 01:45 am

I saw another listing for a guy who owns a jewelry store who wants new carpet. Rip up the old and remove and put down new and they will give you a Rolex or diamonds from their store....
I know from already working in a jewelry store, that over the years much gold collects in carpet of jewelry stores. Like multiple ounces believe it or not. Southern bullion got like almost 2 oz. out of a carpet they ripped up from an old store and assayed they took over I recall....
I got a friend who lays carpet for a living....
Something like that if the jeweler does not want the carpet scraps and indeed offers a valuable item for the work and time, could be a very profitable venture....

not a barter, he's paying you in real money, i.e. silver and gold (minus the diamonds)

I recall that video posted here Merc, as I remember he said he makes like 800 to 1000 a week in what he finds in the gutters and side-walk outside of jewelry stores and such....

Knowing Craigslist it's probably 10K/GF and the rock will be a Swarovski. Utility-wise that's a great deal for the other guy.

Good luck with that trade, Hawk. Hope that it works out well for both parties. That is the mark of successful business, IMO.

Thanks Ed, I agree when all parties leave happy, it is a good deal for all.... I found this auction for a diamond tester and neat 60x loupe with a built in LED light. All for $16.50, figured that was a fair price and did not even research it, and the free loupe with the led sold me.... Sixteen bucks and some change is pretty meaningless in the bigger picture of things, and no telling how much that may pay off in time, as far as not only proving something is real, but preventing me from doing a deal on something that is not real.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/23081599561....m1439.l2649

Sounds like you know what you're doing, Hawk. Does he have the original receipt? Probably not fenced, right?

Here is a decent image of the V necklace and I think most all of us would agree it would be a good acquisition if the diamonds are indeed real and it is indeed real solid NON plated or filled 10k gold....

Looks beautiful. Problem is, I couldn't tell you if it's worth $500 or $5000, Hawk. I knew you were fluent in coin values but how did you gain your knowledge of jewelry? Assuming it's legitimate, will it be hard to turn over? You mentioned it was worth 1K. Is that what you'd sell it for on ebay? Just curious. Oh yeah, when Kay appraised it, I don't suppose they put the appraisal value in writing? Guess I'm suspicious by nature. IDK, if something's seems too good to be true...
