So I ran into this coin online...

Wtc-Recovery-Silver-Eagle-Question...

Wtc-Recovery-Silver-Eagle-Question...

nothing special about the coin itself, but the slab got me looking through ebay, and found these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...p=true&rt=nc

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-Americ...em3a7587b40a

So, my questions are: how many Gem-UNC were recovered? 1440, 531, or we don't know? And why the different PCGS logo on one of the slabs?

Also found a few MS eagles on ebay, and they had the PCGS serial number/code. why not the Gem-UNC eagles?

Any info on the matter is appreciated.
thanks

They are pretty common in BU, less in MS69 or other grades, not sure the numbers though. It's a cool piece of history thats for sure.

Many thousands of SAEs from a range of years were recovered from the COMEX vaults. The "1 of 1440" only refers to a set of 2001 Eagles slabbed for one submitter and the "1 of 531" was from a set of four coins(1/10-1/2oz GAEs). There were many more slabbed outside of those initial submissions. The slab logo is that of Collector's Universe, the parent company of PCGS, and you will see it on the earliest submissions while later submissions were slabbed by PCGS.
